THE INTENTIONAL QUANTUM:
A new view on science and spirituality
What do the ideas of a brilliant inventor of the Bell Helicopter have to do with the memoirs of a blind leader from the French Resistance in World War 2? How do the mystery cults of Ancient Greece connect with the founders of western philosophy? And what do all of the above have to do with the nature of light?
Languages across the world associate light with awareness. In English, we seek “illumination,†or “see the light†when a problem is solved. We call intelligent people “bright,†and the geniuses among us, “brilliant.†Astounding beauty or brilliance is referred to as “dazzling.†Is there some relationship between light of metaphor and the light of science?
Every second, over a million megatons of light energy is released from the sun. All life on earth ultimately originates from this banquet of energy. In this entertaining talk by Geoff Olson, learn what the human connection to light, in all its guises, might mean for our future evolution.
Geoff Olson is a writer and political cartoonist. His work has appeared in The Globe and Mail, The Vancouver Sun, The National Post, Adbusters, and This magazine. He has appeared as commentator on CBC Radio and CBC NewsWorld, and is a regular contributor to Common Ground Magazine and The Vancouver Courier. He has had a long interest in science, and once taught astronomy at the Gordon Southam Observatory and in the Vancouver School system.
