SFU Philosopher's Cafe Series
The SFU Philosopher’s Café is a series of informal public discussions on modern philosophical issues. Discussions are moderated by Capilano University’s Dr. Mark Battersby. Everyone is welcome, and no training is necessary to participate. Plus, this winter’s series is offered free of charge.
Upcoming Dates and Topics:
March 14: Democracy and Planning – We claim to value democracy, yet few take advantage of its offerings – why? Come discuss the ways that citizens can be more involved in the community planning process with North Vancouver District Transportation Planner Tegan Smith.
April 11: What Happened to Utopia? – Since the collapse of the Berlin wall, there has been a dearth of inspiring visions for the future. Humanity seems to be working towards preventing political and environmental collapse, rather than moving forward to an ideal outcome. Are we beyond utopian thinking, or just depressed?
May 9: Bully for you – School bullying can cause physical and/or psychological damage to the recipient. Is the damage any different when bullies target those of certain racial backgrounds or sexual orientation? This session will be moderated by SFU’s Dr. Brian Burtch, co-author of Get That Freak: Homophobia and Transphobia in High Schools.
Every second Wednesday of the month, 7:00pm – 8:45pm at Lynn Valley Main Library
